Mike from Monster’s Inc Shirt tutorial

Mike Wazoski From Monster Inc care of Disney

Mike Wazoski From Monster Inc care of Disney

I put together a big bash for my 3 sons with the Monsters INC Theme last month. Of course nothing is out for Monster’s Inc until next year when the movie hits theaters. Of course my kids love Monster’s INC and they wanted it this year, so I went to work. You can see my other posts for the party and the wreath here!

So let’s start:

What do you need?

A green Shirt-Micheals sell them in most sizes and you can catch them on sale or with a coupon. I paid $2.50 each.

1/2 yard of Wonder under

Fabric or felt in black, blue, white

a white button

Make a pattern, I made circles on the computer and then cut them out in fabric.

I ironed the wonder under on the fabric and took off the backing and then proceeded to follow the wonder under directions to adhere to the fabric.

I went from large White circle to blue to black in the center. Once I ironed on the fabric I stitched with the sewing machine around the shirt to give it more depth, You don’t need to but I thought it was cute!

I Ironed on the number for their birthday and then stitched around it! So cute and easy!! The boys loved it and have been asking to wear their Mike shirts ever since!

I added the button and we were done!!

Note: I used a transparent thread for the button and it was a bad idea and my son was complaining it itched so use regular thread and everyone will be happy!

Happy Boys in their Birthday Shirts!! Gabe and Reese are 4 and Nico is 2…his number looked better on the back!

Thanks so much for reading and check out my blog at The Momccupation for more fun!

Balloon wreath

DSC06953

We had so much fun getting ready for the boys party and I wanted to share a craft I found on, of all things, Pinterest. It has been going crazy on there and I love how it turned out.

The Birthday/ anything Balloon Wreath

What you need:

A straw wreath in what ever size you like

100 or more balloons in what ever color you like

Bouquet pins- 150- 3 packages

Scrap fabric or 1/4 yard

Chenille wire aka pipe cleaners

I pinned on the fabric so that the straw didn’t show through the balloons!

The I started adding the balloons on the other side. I found using 2 at a time worked better for filling the balloon wreath up faster.

Viola, the final product!! Super easy and so cute. I put mine in a urn planter with foam and did the bottom as well. You can see in the pics above!

Hope you like!!

The Hunger Games Madness

Lionsgate Entertainment is releasing THE HUNGER GAMES on Friday, March 23rd. I  am so excited to see it. I am a huge fan of the books which I read on recommendation a few months ago, which is a task in itself considering that I have 3 crazy young kids running around my house.

Here is the synopsis:
I will not try to explain myself because it is such a complicated book.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games.  A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy.  If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, with a screenplay by Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins and Billy Ray, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik.  Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 26 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following.  It has spent more than 160 consecutive weeks/more than three consecutive years to date on The New York Times bestseller list since its publication in September 2008, and has also appeared consistently on USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. A Lionsgate presentation, of a Color Force / Lionsgate production, a Gary Ross film.

What you need to know?

The Hunger Games was published in 2008 and written by the amazingly creative mind of Suzanne Collins.  It was followed by Catching Fire and MockingJay, the last in the series.

The Phenomenon that followed the likes of Harry Potter and Twilight, are now following this book and movie. With the book becoming a best seller and on the New York Times best seller list 38 weeks straight.

The Stats:

The Hunger Games was published in 2008 and written by the amazingly creative mind of Suzanne Collins.  It was followed by Catching Fire and MockingJay, the last in the series.

The Phenomenon that followed the likes of Harry Potter and Twilight, are now following this book and movie. With the book becoming a best seller and on the New York Times best seller list 38 weeks straight. “What sets the trilogy apart is Collins’s willingness to take on big issues: war, power, sacrifice, personal ethics, the haves vs. the have-nots, and the dangerous nature of our increasingly voyeuristic society. ” says Emily Listfield of Parade.

The Verdict:

Go see it!! The movie is rated PG 13 and mainly because of the violence in the movie. Though the producers did a good job keeping the violence to a minimum in a movie about a killing others. The only complaint I have is if you have  tenancy to get sick with movies that move around a lot and have that reality type feature in the filming(like running with the camera bouncing around). It did not sit well for the first 20 minutes or so till I got used to it. The movie is 2 hours and 20 minutes and if you factor in previews you will be in the theater for a good 3 hours.

The movie does a relatively good job of explaining the basic plot and many of the books details as well. Jennifer Lawrence does a excellent job in her role as Katniss, you may recognize her from X Men; First Class or  Winter’s Bones. Josh Hutcherson plays Peeta Mellark, and does a good job in the role. I would have liked to see a bulkier manly young adult play Peeta but he does a good job none the less. You may remember him from Journey to the center of the Earth, and Journey 2 out in theaters  now as well.  Haymitch is played by Woody Harrelson whom we all know and love…especially his many crazy roles. He is the perfect Haymitch and I love him in the movie.  As well as Stanley Tucci as Ceasar, in his crazy outfits and hairstyles was a perfect fit. All the parts were well cast and Gale was exactly as I pictured him played by Liam Hemsworth. Plus he is super hot!!  Even though his part is minuscule in the first movie, we will get to see much more of him in the next 2 movies.

Overall I give the movie an A. This is not a movie for young children and there are many different topics touched in the movie that would be confusing to younger audiences.

Happy Hunger Games, &  May the odds be ever in your favor!

promo_iphoneapp

How many of you are looking for the best apps for parents? or for us moms?

I know there are too many to look through and browse so we take recommendations from friends and family, some are good and some are not exactly what we want. There are however some fantastic apps on the market that are made to make your life easier and great for kids. So for this first list there is not a order of what is best but what are the top 10 recommended apps and why you should try them out. Most are free and a few are paid apps. Believe me, I don’t recommend paid apps unless I really love them.

  1. Cozi App- for iPhone, iPad and android

This app is a great calendar app, to do list, journals, and meal planning & grocery lists. I know just what you need another calendar app. You have google right??? But listen, this is a great app which you can sync with outlook and then if you have it set up sync with Google or I calendar.

THE BEST FEATURE: you can set up text message reminders for appointments!! My husband has the worst memory by far and always says” can you just text me a reminder?” Who has time for this? Certainly not me so now with cozi I can set up a doctor’s appt and a reminder can be sent to him on his cell…and mine if I need to remind my self as well. You can also set it up anywhere from 10 minutes before to 1 hour or whatever you want.

Seriously love this app and it’s free.

If you happen to be a Flylady you can add in all their cleaning reminders automatically in with cozi!

2. Evernote -

Evernote is a great free app that allows you to take notes, pics, and anything you like…and they are everywhere with you. 3. Shopkick – Android and iPhone

Again free and great. This one you can collect points for using coupons. There are different coupons for varoius stores in your area and tere are bonus points for if you scan differnet things or even extra $ off coupons hiding about. I love that I don’t need to print a coupon but just have them scan it at the store. this one is great for a sound machine. Moms you know that soothing sounds are great for babies and children. It helps soothe them to sleep. This app is great because it is easy to use and there are more sounds then many of the other sound apps out there. My sons love the crickets and melody mixed together. You an save mixes you made and like as well. I like the rain for my little one as well. My 4 year old twins share a room and this really helps put them to sleep ..or does it just make it harder to chat? I dont’ know but I like it still.

6. Mint.com is a new one that I have just got and was recommended by Abigail over at  http://www.lovinourchaos.com/

 7.  Total Baby: $4.99
This is one of the few paid apps I recommend and like alot. It is great for new moms and keeping all those crazy charts after the baby is born.
It will help you log and time all aspects of your child’s care through a smart and sleek interface that makes tracking easy and fun. I used this everyday when Iwas breast feeding and too tires to remember which side the little man was on last or how many diaper changes I did. I know that it seems a little much for those veteran moms but this is a new mom must! I could read on the iPod and use the timer on this app at the same time.

8.  BabySitter2Go™ FREE or .99

This app is a free app for babies and little ones. It is a app with a rattle which the baby can shake and it makes noise or a fish tank app where the baby can make the fish move and bubbles. It for some reason works great in the car on long drives for my little one. He loved it from 15 months on. I know we don’t really want our kids playing with the iPod that little but on ur long drives from vegas to San Diego this was a life saver. Try it and you will see.

9. Mypad

This is a free app that puts together your facebook and twitter apps all in one. I love it becasue I don’t have to go back a forth between the 2 apps. It works great and you will love it! Try it!

10. You tell me!!

I want to know what others are your favorites!!

Here are a few others bloggers are saying:

-I love gas buddy. It’s for everyone. From Billie frugalferret.com

-One of my favorites is White Noise. It offers a variety of sounds to play as you fall asleep. Great for hotel rooms or other unfamiliar surroundings. I also have a few favorites to keep my daughter busy during road trips and when we go out to eat: My Horse, Mermaid Waters, and Paint Sparkles. All of them are free and at least somewhat educational.

Win a date night to Tortilla Curtain

TC_SDRep_638X234

Have you read the book yet? You don’t have to.

Play by Matthew Spangler
based on the novel by T.C. Boyle
directed by Sam Woodhouse

March 17–April 8, 2012 on the Lyceum Stage

World Premiere

This play is a recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New American Plays award.

The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle is a beautifully written novel about  a deeply moving story of the men and women who risk everything to cross the Mexican border and invade the American dream. “Succeeds in stealing the front page news and bringing it home to the great American tradition of the social novel”.–The Boston Globe.

And now it’s a play at the San Diego Repertory Theatre

The Story

This world premiere production is adapted from the modern fiction classic by T.C. Boyle, the writer Newsweek calls “America’s most imaginative contemporary novelist.”

In the sun-baked beauty of Topanga Canyon, the lives of three people are on a collision course. Delaney Mossbacher, nature writer and staunch environmentalist, lives a tidy, comfortable existence with his wife and young stepson behind the walls of a gated hilltop community. They are living the American dream, unquestioning of their absolute right to all that they have. Cándido Rincón and his sister-in-law América, recently arrived undocumented immigrants from Mexico, live in a ravine at the bottom of the canyon, fighting the elements and tirelessly mowing lawns and cleaning houses while they save for an apartment. They cling to their vision of the American dream, which manages to elude their grasp at every turn. One summer day, Delaney, driving up the narrow, twisting canyon road, hits Cándido with his car. The lives of the two men and their families will never be the same.

Playwright Matthew Spangler is the author of the critically-acclaimed stage adaptation of the blockbuster novel The Kite Runner. Now Spangler has fashioned a rip-roaring tale that screams out, “We are all in this together!” Part satire and part parable, Tortilla Curtain is humorous and heart breaking, a story that speaks passionately to the future of California and the challenges of forming “a more perfect union” in our changing America.

All you have to do is enter to win tickets to see Tortilla Curtain in San Diego.

I can’t wait to see it and now you don’t have to either. I am giving away 2 ticket to see it. All you have to do is enter below.

Disney’s John Carter futuristic and historic

Did you see John Carter this weekend? It came out Friday. I had the opportunity to see it on Monday and it was great. I love Disney because they always have the right amount of adult to kid appropriateness. John Carter was based on a series of books from Edgar Rice Burroughs mainly being the first novel “A princess from Mars”. Burroughs had a beautiful imagination to create such a series and it was so lovely to see the historic 1900′s and then a futuristic and historic Mars with Roman or Spartan-esque qualities. I didn’t even realize the movie was in 3d until we got there. Disney did a superb job with the 3d and special effects. I love historic movies so this was great and it has all the manly action as well. Along with Sci-fi jurassic like pet and martians. The over all picture was fantastic and go take your potty break first and then hold on for a 2 hour plus adventure.

Would I take my kids?

No, but they are 4. I would take kids about 10 and up. Make sure you bring snacks because this is a 3d movie and they will need a potty break as well but it’s well worth the money. It has a little bit of everything in it. There are some scary monsters and the battle scenes get a little gory.

From Disney:

Disney presents the epic action-adventure film “John Carter,” based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic, “A Princess
of Mars,” the first novel in Burroughs’ Barsoom series.
This year, 2012, marks the 100th anniversary of Burroughs’ character John Carter, the original hero featured in the
series, who has thrilled generations with his adventures on Mars. Over generations, John Carter has become a heroic paradigm across all forms of pop culture. From novels to comic books, artwork to animation, TV and now cinema, the character has inspired some of the most creative minds of
the last century.
A fan of the Barsoom series of books since childhood, Academy Award®–winning director/writer Andrew Stanton
explains what inspired him to bring “John Carter” to the big screen: “I stumbled across these books at the perfect
age. I was about ten and I just fell in love with the concept of a human finding himself on Mars, among amazing
creatures in a strange new world. A stranger in a strange land. It was a very romantic aspect of adventure and
science fiction. I always thought it would be cool to see this realized on the big screen.”
Andrew Stanton directed and co-wrote the screenplay for Disney•Pixar’s
“WALL•E,” which earned the Academy Award® and Golden Globe® for Best
Animated Feature (2008). Stanton was nominated for an Oscar® for the
screenplay. He made his directorial debut with Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Nemo,”
garnering an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay and
winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature (2003). Stanton has worked as a
screenwriter and/or executive producer on Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story,” “A Bug’s
Life” (which he also co-directed), “Toy Story 2,” “Monsters, Inc.,” “Ratatouille”
and “Up.”
The stellar ensemble cast is led by Taylor Kitsch (NBC’s “Friday Night Lights,”
“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) in the title role; Lynn Collins (“True Blood,” “50
First Dates,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) as the warrior princess Dejah Thoris;
and Oscar® nominee Willem Dafoe (“Spider-Man,” “Shadow of the Vampire”)
as Martian inhabitant Tars Tarkas. The cast also includes Thomas Haden Church
(“Sideways,” “Spider-Man 3”), Polly Walker (“Clash of the Titans,” “Patriot
Games”), Samantha Morton (“Elizabeth: The Golden Age,” “In America”), Mark Strong (“Sherlock Holmes,” “Body
of Lies”), Ciaran Hinds (“Munich,” “There Will Be Blood”), Dominic West (“300,” “Chicago”), James Purefoy (“Vanity
Fair,” “Resident Evil”) and Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”). Daryl Sabara (“Disney’s Christmas Carol,” “Spy Kids”)
takes the role of John Carter’s teenage nephew, Edgar Rice Burroughs.

What do you think of Taylor Kitsch?

Well, if you are a fan of “Friday Night Lights” he is even better in this. He has a heroic role and look fab is the outfit above. How long did it take to get those abs Taylor? I mean ladies even if you are a romance fan, you can’t go wrong with the eye candy in the movie. And men, Lyn Collins(from True Blood) was phenomenal as well and gorgeous. SO all in all great cast and movie!

Go have a great weekend and see a fun family movie!

Help kids with Autism! Splash for cash!

splash_for_cash_logo

A friend of mine has a child with Autism. I know this can be very trying on parents and the children. I have worked with many different children with Autism in my experience as a teacher. There are so many great ways you can help children with Autism learn, cope and play. So I wanted to share with you all a great cause!

So here is Jennifer’s guest post!

One out of 110 children born today have Autism.  A lot of these children also have sensory disorder, which can make swimming very hard for parents to teach their children.  The Autism Society of San Diego has a program called Pool PALS. Money raised through this event will be used towards grants for Autistic children of all ages to receive free one-on-one swimming lessons or free Summer Surf Camp. The staff at Aqua Pros are trained to use strategies to help Autistic children of all ages have less stress and more fun in the pool!

Both of my boys swim at Aqua Pros and the staff is seriously wonderful!  They are very patient and understanding. Hopefully we can help raise even more money than last year to make more free swimming lessons available. Please help if you can, even a little helps and can put another child safely in the pool!  Thank you for your support!

What do I think?

I love it!! I love that you can move the camera with your finger in the screen not running in the babies room in the middle of the night because they yacked a cord or you messed you where the camera was pointed. It is so easy and that is by far the best feature! You can 2 way audio if you need to soothe baby and you can take pictures of your little one if you want while they are sleeping and they will never know. I know that other monitors have this feature too but you have to hook them up to get the pics off but with this one you have it on your phone or iPad already!

Here is the little man after we mounted it on the wall! and below is before when I had to test it out before the hubby got home to hang it for me!

I really like the iBaby monitor and it works great! You will love it!

The only drawback:  You need to keep your iPad or iPod plugged in if you use it over night because it uses up the battery.

I need another!! Really I would like another camera…Yes, you can purchase a extra one if needed!

Disclosure: I have received the reviewed product from Best Buy for free.  All opinions are 100% mine.
